Body parts found at Incheon facility belong to adult 161–165 cm tall, forensic agency says

Body parts found at a public recycling facility in Incheon's Songdo district belong to an adult, authorities have confirmed. Police are focusing their investigation on identifying the victim based on forensic findings.

According to the Incheon Yeonsu Police Station on Sunday, the National Forensic Service issued its preliminary assessment of the remains discovered June 10, concluding that they belonged to "an adult estimated to be between 161 and 165 centimeters tall."

Initial measurements of the remains — a foot size of 210 millimeters and a shin-to-heel length of 41 centimeters — had led some to speculate the victim could be a child or teenager. Police said they will now pursue the investigation on the assumption that the victim is an adult.

Police also warned against unverified speculation and rumors spreading through online communities and social media. "The indiscriminate spread of unconfirmed information can seriously disrupt the early stages of the investigation," a police official said, adding that even sharing such content could result in charges including defamation. "Please refrain from spreading unverified claims."

The case began June 10 at around 2:28 p.m., when workers at the Southern Area Regional Lifestyle Resource Recovery Center in Songdo-dong, Yeonsu-gu, Incheon, found a partial human left leg wrapped in bandages among collected recyclables.

Police have assembled a dedicated investigative task force of 64 officers. The team has identified all 34 vehicles that delivered recyclables to the center that day and is cross-referencing their collection routes with closed-circuit television footage. Investigators are also running DNA comparisons against a list of missing persons to establish the victim's identity.
