Mungyeong Doline Wetland marks 9th anniversary as national protected area

Mungyeong City in North Gyeongsang Province held a ceremony Monday to mark the ninth anniversary of the Mungyeong Doline Wetland's designation as a national wetland protection area.

The Mungyeong Doline Wetland was designated as the country's 23rd national wetland protection area on June 15, 2017. Since then, it has earned recognition for its ecological and academic value, achieving a series of milestones — including designation as an ecotourism zone, listing as a Ramsar wetland, and certification as a Ramsar wetland city.

At the ceremony, attendees reflected on the wetland's ecological significance and the importance of its conservation, and exchanged views on sustainable use going forward. A guided tour of the wetland followed, giving participants a firsthand look at the area's natural environment.

Cheon Sang-han, head of the city's environmental protection division, said the city would do its utmost to establish the Mungyeong Doline Wetland as a leading ecotourism destination where conservation and public use go hand in hand, building on the progress made over the past nine years.
