'Key to becoming an energy platform company is R&D talent,' LG Energy Solution CEO says

LG Energy Solution held its annual global talent event, the Battery Tech Conference (BTC), in Chicago on Saturday to recruit key research and development personnel who will drive future battery technology innovation, the company announced Monday.

The BTC is a recruitment-linked event that LG Energy Solution holds each year, inviting master's and doctoral candidates from around the world to learn about the company's technological capabilities, vision and R&D direction.

More than 40 master's and doctoral students and researchers from leading North American universities and research institutions — including MIT, Stanford University, UC Berkeley, the University of Chicago and Argonne National Laboratory — attended this year's event. Participants included talent in core research areas such as energy storage systems (ESS) and next-generation batteries, as well as future technology fields including AI and physical AI.

LG Energy Solution was represented by CEO Kim Dong-myung and other senior executives, including Executive Vice President and Chief Digital Officer Lee Jin-gyu and Executive Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer Kim Ki-su, along with key technology leaders: Lee Jae-heon, head of the Cell Advanced Development Group; Kim Ki-woong, head of the ESS Development Center; and Yoon Jeong-seok, senior vice president in charge of AI and big data.

In his welcoming remarks, Kim said he aims to grow LG Energy Solution "beyond a simple battery company into an energy platform company that provides total solutions," adding that "R&D talent like you are the ones who create the future." He said building the future of batteries "will not be an easy journey, but it will be a meaningful and worthwhile challenge."

The event also featured presentations on the current state and vision of major research organizations, along with research talks covering new technology areas including ESS, AI and big data, and next-generation batteries. A special lecture was delivered by Lee Sang-young, a professor in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at Yonsei University and a leading authority in the battery field, who introduced the latest trends in battery research.
