Commenters urge broadcaster Park Myung-su to speak out on ballot shortage controversy

As controversy grows over a ballot shortage during the June 3 local elections, commenters have been flooding broadcaster Park Myung-su's social media account with calls for him to speak out on the matter.

Park recently posted a group photo with K-pop group Le Sserafim on his social media, captioning it "Collaboration with Le Sserafim." The comments section of the post, however, quickly filled with demands that he weigh in on the political issue.

"Why are you so quiet right now?" one commenter wrote. Others urged him to "raise your voice" and "speak your mind on the current situation." One commenter appealed to his reputation as a civic-minded figure: "Democracy collapsed when ballots ran out in Jamsil — please say something, as someone who has always stood up for democratic values." Another wrote, "I thought you were a celebrity who called things out regardless of political side."

Not everyone joined in the pressure. Some commenters came to Park's defense, writing "Just ignore the comments," "Stop harassing Park Myung-su," and "What exactly do you want from him?"

The demands appear to stem from Park's reputation for blunt, straight-talking commentary on his broadcasts.

On his KBS Cool FM program "Park Myung-su's Radio Show," which aired May 29, Park brought up the election and urged listeners to cast their votes.

"You know what happens when you pick the wrong person — it's a disaster," he said. "So please choose someone truly capable, so our country can live better."

He also encouraged listeners the day before the local elections, saying, "Everyone needs to vote in Wednesday's local elections. Don't forget your precious vote — make sure you get out there."
