Nowon-gu District Mayor Oh Seung-rok attended the opening ceremony of the "2026 Choan Mountain Hydrangea Festival" at 6:40 p.m. Sunday at the Choan Mountain Hydrangea Garden and the outdoor music stage of Yeomgwang High School, celebrating the successful launch of the event.
The 2026 Choan Mountain Hydrangea Festival ran for two days, from June 20 through June 21. The Choan Mountain Hydrangea Garden was created by restoring woodland damaged by illegal dumping and unauthorized farming. It now features more than 11,000 hydrangea plants across 20 varieties — including Annabelle, Endless Summer and star hydrangeas — and has established itself as a signature summer floral destination in Nowon.
On the festival's opening day, a 30-piece performance by the Western Symphony Orchestra was followed by a collaboration with singer Jang Sa-ik, drawing a warm response from the audience. Jang performed signature songs including "Jjillekkot," "Abeoji" and "Bom Nareun Ganda," adding to the atmosphere of an early summer night.
At the ceremony held Sunday, residents of Wolgye 2-dong presented District Mayor Oh with a plaque of appreciation in recognition of his efforts to establish the Choan Mountain Hydrangea Garden. Singer Tei then took the stage, performing his signature songs and keeping the festival's energy going.
Throughout the festival grounds, visitors were treated to a variety of photo zones — including a hydrangea arch road, an elephant family topiary zone and a hydrangea waterfall — while food booths and flower sales stalls drew a strong response from attendees.
"The Choan Mountain Hydrangea Garden is a beautiful floral landmark that defines Nowon's summer," Oh said. "I hope visitors will enjoy the early summer atmosphere surrounded by hydrangeas in full bloom, taking in the performances and creating cherished memories."
