Otis Korea completes largest-ever elevator replacement at GS Gangnam Tower

Otis Korea announced Sunday that it has successfully completed an elevator replacement project at GS Gangnam Tower, the headquarters of GS Group.

The project, completed in June, marks the largest elevator modernization contract in Otis Korea's history.

GS Gangnam Tower is one of South Korea's major large-scale office buildings. The project involved replacing 31 elevators in total — 21 high-speed units and 10 mid- and low-speed units.

Otis has maintained the building's elevators since their initial installation in 2000, a 25-year relationship the company said was instrumental in securing the large-scale replacement contract.

Given that the building houses GS Group's headquarters and several of its key affiliates, noise and vibration control and safety management were identified as critical challenges throughout the project.

To address those demands, Otis deployed a cross-functional team drawing on its modernization, service and engineering divisions to deliver a site-specific replacement solution. The company said the collaboration both ensured elevator quality and safety and shortened the overall construction period.

"The successful completion of this project will serve as an important turning point in securing Otis's competitive edge in the high-rise elevator modernization and precision safety construction market," Jeong Ji-hun, president and CEO of Otis Korea, said. "It is particularly meaningful because it was achieved through close collaboration among our three divisions — service, modernization and engineering."

"The trust our customers have placed in the high-quality maintenance service we have provided over many years played a major role in winning this contract," Jeong added. "It is also a result our service engineers can be very proud of."

Meanwhile, Otis Korea continues to strengthen partnerships with major domestic and international customers. Last month, the company renewed a five-year elevator maintenance contract with the Gwangmyeong International Design Cluster knowledge industry center in Gwangmyeong, Gyeonggi Province.
