North Gyeongsang education office to donate 3,500 Korean-language books to Laos

The North Gyeongsang Provincial Office of Education announced Monday that it will donate approximately 3,500 Korean-language educational books to schools and libraries in Laos as part of its 2026 Overseas Book Donation Project.

The books will go to five institutions in Laos that offer Korean-language education or serve as public cultural facilities, including Vientiane Middle School, the National University of Laos, the National Library of Laos and the Logos Foreign Language hagwon.

All 27 public libraries under the office will take part in the donation drive.

Each library will select books deemed most suitable for donation, then disinfect and prepare them before attaching donation stickers, sorting and packaging the volumes.

The office has carried out overseas book donation projects continuously since 2021, donating approximately 18,000 books to 23 schools in Laos, Japan, China and Uzbekistan in support of Korean-language education abroad and expanded educational and cultural exchange.

"We hope the books delivered this time will become a precious learning resource for students in Laos as they study the Korean language and deepen their understanding of Korean culture," said Im Jong-sik, superintendent of the North Gyeongsang Provincial Office of Education.
