Comedian Yoon Hyung-bin confesses he lost 2 billion won on meal-kit venture without telling his wife

Comedian Yoon Hyung-bin has confessed that a failed business venture cost him 2 billion won (about $1.3 million).

Yoon appears as a guest on Monday's episode of the SBS Plus talk show "Sinppal Talk Show: Curious Stories 2," alongside creator Eom Eun-hyang.

When host Lee Guk-ju asked whether he had ever experienced a spectacular failure in his life, Yoon said the COVID-19 pandemic was probably his lowest point.

He explained that his performance venues had taken a direct hit during the pandemic, losing tens of millions of won. Hoping to offset the downturn by riding what he saw as an upward trend, he launched a meal-kit business — but that, too, failed.

When Lee remarked that meal kits must have done extremely well during the pandemic, Yoon sighed and said he had run a brick-and-mortar meal-kit store — and that customers simply did not come.

Eom chimed in, saying delivery had been booming at the time, to which Yoon shot back, "You should have told me that then," drawing laughter from the panel.

When Lee asked whether his wife, fellow comedian Jeong Gyeong-mi, had tried to stop him, Yoon surprised everyone by admitting he had never told her. "I figured she would talk me out of it if I did," he said. "I think I lost around 2 billion won."

Yoon made his debut in 2005 as part of the 20th class of KBS open-recruitment comedians and became a fan favorite on "Gag Concert" through his character "Wang Bi-ho." He married fellow comedian Jeong Gyeong-mi in 2013 after a public courtship, and the couple have a son and a daughter.
