Citizen calls out subway rider who sprawled across seats reserved for pregnant women

A video of a passenger firmly confronting a man who flouted public transit etiquette by taking up multiple seats on a subway train has gone viral.

The footage was posted Saturday on the YouTube channel "Kingbatjyu" and various social media platforms, showing a young man approaching a passenger who was causing discomfort to others in the subway car.

In the video, a man had settled into a seat designated for pregnant women, removed his shoes and stretched his legs across the bench. He occupied a total of three seats on his own — starting from the priority seat — blocking other passengers from passing and sitting down.

A young man who witnessed the behavior stepped up and confronted him. "Don't other people also want to take off their shoes and stretch their legs?" he said. "But they don't, because this is a public space."

He pressed further, saying it was a problem that the man had removed his shoes, put his feet up and taken three seats. "You've got your legs stretched out and your shoes off — who would want to sit here?" he said. When the offending passenger pushed back and asked, "Are you saying I'm dirty?" the young man shot back, "Do you think your feet are clean?" and demanded that the man observe basic public transit etiquette.
