A mother and son were found dead in an apartment in Eumseong-gun, North Chungcheong Province, after the son fell victim to a voice phishing scam, it has emerged.
Police found the bodies of a woman in her 50s, identified as A, and her son in his 20s, identified as B, inside an apartment in Eumseong-gun on the morning of June 20.
Officers were dispatched after a family member reported that the mother and her son had been unreachable since the previous day.
A note found at the scene indicated the two had been struggling in the aftermath of a voice phishing scam.
Police believe B took his own life alongside his mother after losing 50 million won (about $32,600) to voice phishing and falling into despair. They plan to close the case.
