Ingenious, a South Korean startup specializing in compact biosignal radar technology, has signed a three-way memorandum of understanding with chipmaker Infineon Technologies and the Thai Embedded Systems Association to jointly develop AI-based radar solutions for patient monitoring and fall detection.
The agreement was signed June 18 at the Thailand Secure Edge AI Summit in Thailand. Infineon Asia-Pacific President CS Chua, TESA President Wiroon Sriborrirux, a professor, and Ingenious CEO Song Moon-bin attended the signing ceremony.
The three parties plan to pilot and deploy the solutions initially in South Korea and Thailand, then expand the collaboration across Asian markets.
Under the partnership, Infineon will supply 60GHz radar chips, edge and security semiconductors, and an AI development platform. TESA will handle medical data integration platforms, multilingual applications, and support for pilot environments and certification in Thailand. Ingenious will lead the development and commercialization of radar-based biosignal and fall detection AI algorithms.
The solution uses a contactless approach to detect patients' vital signs — including respiration and heart rate — as well as falls, and relays that information to medical staff and caregivers. Development is underway to make the system applicable not only in hospitals and care facilities but also in home care settings.
Ingenious develops contactless biosignal detection technology using radar and operates a healthcare solutions business built around that technology. The company received the Presidential Award at the 2024 Korea Radio and Broadcasting Technology Awards.
"Through this collaboration, we plan to expand the application of our technology starting from South Korea and Thailand," Song said. "Building on our partnerships with each organization, we will explore diverse business opportunities in the healthcare sector."
