Chuncheon's future growth strategy, key issues discussed
Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Governor-elect Woo Sang-ho visited Chuncheon City Hall on Monday and met with Mayor Yuk Dong-han, pledging strong support for the city's future growth projects.
With the new provincial administration set to launch, Yuk stressed the need for close cooperation between the province and the city. He asked for continued attention and collaboration to ensure the stable progress of major projects, including the Camp Page urban regeneration innovation district, the corporate innovation park and the Chuncheon transit-oriented area development.
He also proposed that the province and city maintain close communication and build a framework for mutual cooperation, so that the future growth strategy Chuncheon has pursued over the past four years can translate into broader development for Gangwon Province.
"I came to City Hall because I believe it is only right to meet the incumbent mayor and city officials in person," Woo said. "I have heard a great deal about how capable Chuncheon's public servants are. Gangwon Province will do everything it can to help Chuncheon become an even better place to live."
He added that he had "fallen in love with Chuncheon," saying that after living there for about five months he had come to appreciate the city's comfort, beauty and livability in a new way. "I believe population grows when a city becomes a great place to live," he said. "Let us work together with our talented public servants to craft good policies and grow Chuncheon into a city that represents not just Gangwon Province, but all of South Korea."
Woo said he had closely reviewed Chuncheon's major projects during the election campaign and expressed high expectations for large-scale undertakings, including the Camp Page urban regeneration innovation district, the corporate innovation park and the Chuncheon transit-oriented area development.
"If these major projects proceed as planned, I believe the changes will be significant enough to redraw Chuncheon's urban map," he said. "For projects requiring national funding, Gangwon Province will provide strong backing. Where needed, we will think through the challenges together, and I will contribute my own ideas to help ensure their success."
"Even if just the projects already on the books move forward without a hitch, Chuncheon can change dramatically," he added. "We are also exploring various possibilities related to attracting businesses and stimulating investment, so the province and city will work closely together to deliver results one by one."
Meanwhile, Woo wrote in the City Hall guest book: "The moment Chuncheon becomes special — I will make it happen together with Mayor Yuk Dong-han."
