Mapo-gu, led by District Mayor Park Kang-su, is accepting nominations for the 2026 Mapo-gu Citizen Award through July 29 to recognize unsung contributors to the local community.
The Mapo-gu Citizen Award was established to identify individuals and organizations that serve as role models in the community and to raise public awareness of their contributions. The district has presented the award annually since 1992.
This year's award covers seven categories: the Culture Award, Sports Award, Safety and Environment Award, Education Award, Filial Piety and Good Deeds Award, Volunteer and Donation Award, and Community Development Award. Up to three recipients may be selected in each category.
Eligible nominees are individuals who have maintained continuous resident registration in Mapo-gu for at least three years as of the announcement date, or organizations and businesses based in the district for at least three years.
Nominations may be submitted by relevant institutions or organization heads, school principals, two or more Mapo-gu Assembly members, or at least 30 residents signing jointly for each award category. However, nominations submitted by residents require confirmation from the head of the dong office with jurisdiction over the nominee's place of residence.
Application documents may be submitted in person at the Mapo-gu Office's autonomous administration division or at the relevant neighborhood community center, or by registered mail — postmarks through July 29 will be accepted. Photographs and digital files must be submitted separately by email.

The district will verify nominees' public contributions and conduct an open review before the Citizen Award screening committee selects the final recipients.
Winners will receive their plaques at the Citizen's Day ceremony in October.
"The residents who have quietly dedicated themselves to the community from behind the scenes are the true driving force that makes Mapo a warmer and more livable city," a Mapo-gu official said. "We ask for the public's attention and active participation in nominating the unsung contributors around us."
