Group to operate for 6 months from July, producing content on regional activities and policy scenes
The Presidential Committee on Basic Society announced Tuesday it is accepting public applications for its "2026 Basic Society Committee Citizen Journalist Corps."
The program — the first of its kind for the committee — aims to broaden public engagement with basic society policy by having participants report on related policies, projects and local activities from their own perspectives and turn that reporting into shareable content.
About 30 journalists will be selected from five regions across the country: the Greater Seoul area, Gangwon Province, the Gyeongsang region, the Jeju-Honam region and the Chungcheong region.
Selected participants will serve for approximately six months, from July through December, covering basic society-related activities and policy scenes in their respective regions and producing a range of online content, including news articles and card-format news posts.
Applications are open from Tuesday through July 5, with details available on the committee's official blog. The committee plans to announce the selected members around July 10 following a document screening process.
Kang Nam-hun, vice chairman of the Presidential Committee on Basic Society, said basic society policy is closely tied to people's everyday lives, making it essential to communicate those policies from the public's perspective and convey voices from the field. "We look forward to the participation of many citizens who have an interest in and passion for basic society policy," he said.
