Collaboration with social enterprise Disabled brings art by artists with developmental disabilities to premium gift series
Korea Minting and Security Printing Corp. has unveiled a premium greeting card collection that pairs the asset value of gold with the warmth of a personal message. The state-run mint said Tuesday it is releasing six designs under its "Congratulatory Series Card-Type Gold" line, featuring artwork by artists with developmental disabilities.
The products are designed to mark a range of life milestones — marriage, birthdays, university entrance, gratitude, general celebrations and romance — and combine the intrinsic value of pure gold with a heartfelt message for the recipient.
The line was developed in collaboration with Disabled, a social enterprise led by CEO Kim Hyeon-il that reinterprets works by artists with developmental disabilities into merchandise and commercial products. The packaging and card designs incorporate the artists' distinctive works, blending artistic and social value.
Each card contains a 0.5-gram, 6-by-8-millimeter piece of 99.9-percent pure gold (Au 999) in a card-style package, enhancing portability and collectability. The gold pieces carry the mint's two-directional latent-image technology, an anti-counterfeiting feature developed in-house.
"The Congratulatory Series Card-Type Gold was designed to make life's precious moments — marriage, childbirth, birthdays, university entrance — even more memorable," President Seong Chang-hun said. "We wanted to convey both the value of gold and the spirit of celebration, while elevating the meaning of the gift through the work of artists with developmental disabilities."
The cards are available through Korea Minting and Security Printing Corp.'s online shopping mall.
