About 275 pyeong (910 square meters) with five corners serving hansik and Korean snacks; company expands concession and catering portfolio
Lotte GRS's concession brand PLE:EATING is set to open a food court at the National Museum of Korea next month.
According to industry sources Tuesday, Lotte GRS recently signed a food court management contract with the National Museum of Korea Cultural Foundation and plans to open PLE:EATING at the museum's west wing third floor — equivalent to the first floor of the exhibition building — as early as mid-July. The site spans 910.47 square meters (about 275.4 pyeong, with 1 pyeong equaling 3.3 square meters). The contract runs through July 31 next year and can be extended by up to five years depending on performance.
The food court will be divided into five corners offering hansik and Korean snack dishes accessible to visitors of all ages. The company is also considering launching menu items exclusive to the National Museum of Korea. "This is part of our effort to diversify our portfolio by expanding concession contract wins, moving beyond our traditional franchise-centered business model," a Lotte GRS official said.
The National Museum of Korea has emerged in recent years as a leading cultural destination for all generations. Last year it surpassed 6.5 million annual visitors for the first time since opening, driven in large part by an influx of younger visitors and foreign tourists drawn by the Netflix animated series "K-Pop Demon Hunters." Ediya Coffee has also been operating five locations inside the museum since March.
Beyond its flagship brands including Lotteria, Lotte GRS has been expanding into concession management and institutional catering. Concession sales in the first quarter of this year rose 18.6 percent year on year, and the segment's share of total revenue grew from 5.5 percent in 2021 to 11 percent as of the first quarter. Building on concession wins at Incheon International Airport and Seoul Arts Center last year, the company was recently selected to operate the food and beverage facilities at the National Science Museum in Gwacheon.
