Man in his 50s booked for stalking KIA Tigers pitcher Yang Hyun-jong's family over parking dispute

A man in his 50s has been booked on charges of stalking the family of KIA Tigers pitcher Yang Hyun-jong and damaging property near their home in Gwangju.

The Gwangju Nambu Police Station said Tuesday it had booked the man, identified only as A, and is investigating the case.

A is accused of loitering around the family's home in a residential neighborhood near Yangnim-dong in Nam-gu, Gwangju, and damaging a promotional poster of Yang affixed to a wall — conduct that allegedly continued from March through recent weeks.

Investigators found that A, who runs a shop in the area, carried out the acts after a dispute with Yang's family over parking in a narrow alley. He is accused of spitting food on a promotional poster attached to the wall of the family's home more than 10 times and repeatedly loitering around the property.

A admitted to all of the alleged conduct during police questioning.

Police issued emergency protective measures against A, including a ban on approaching within 100 meters of the victim's home and a communications blackout.

However, Yang's family — the victims in the case — reportedly do not wish to see A, a longtime neighbor, punished, and are asking only that the behavior not recur.

Police said they are continuing to investigate the full circumstances of the incident.
