North Gyeongsang Province wraps up 2026 Gyeongbuk East Sea Geopark Mission Marathon

North Gyeongsang Province announced Tuesday that it held the 2026 Gyeongbuk East Sea Geopark Mission Marathon in the Uljin area over a one-night, two-day period, drawing 29 family teams — 100 participants in total — from across the country.

The event was an overnight program in which family participants from around the country stayed in Uljin, exploring geological sites within the Gyeongbuk East Sea Geopark alongside local tourism resources.

Participants moved between Uljin General Stadium, the Gyeongbuk East Sea Geopark Center and the Seongnyu Cave area, completing missions as families along the way.

On the first day, families walked roughly 2 kilometers, taking part in six checkpoint missions and two special missions.

That evening, a family-oriented GEO recreation and exchange program was held at Deokgu Hotel.

On the second day, participants could choose between a visit to Deokgu Hot Spring Spa and a special lecture by children's book author Chae In-seon.

"We will continue to expand a range of family programs that connect geological, ecological and cultural resources with education, tourism and regional revitalization, in cooperation with the East Sea Geopark Office," said Lee Gyeong-gon, director of the North Gyeongsang Province Climate and Environment Bureau.
