Comedian Kim Ji-sun has opened up about the burnout and car accident she experienced during the height of her home shopping career.
A video titled "One word she cried out just before the crash — Kim Ji-sun's encounter with God" was posted Sunday on the YouTube channel "Lee Seong-mi's Can't Go."
In the video, Kim looked back on the period when she became a major draw in the home shopping industry after successfully losing weight following the birth of her fourth child.
"As soon as 100 days had passed after giving birth, I went on an extreme diet for three months without eating any carbohydrates," she said. "After I revealed my abs, the response was explosive."
The appearances kept coming after that, she said, leaving her with a relentlessly packed schedule. "On busy days I did home shopping up to six times in a single day. I went through every home shopping channel, hosted three TV programs and had a regular radio slot as well," Kim said.
"I had no time to spend money and no time to even make eye contact with my family," she said. "I had no life of my own, and I fell into depression."
The accumulated fatigue from her grueling schedule eventually caught up with her, and Kim was involved in a car accident while driving herself home.
Recalling the moment, she said, "As the car was being wrecked, my whole life flashed before my eyes and I screamed for someone to save me. It was only after going through that experience that I realized money is not the whole of what it means to be blessed."
"I came to understand that I had been trading time with my family — rest and breathing room — for money," she added. "That accident became the turning point that changed the direction of my life."
