Hansung Motors renews support for laundry welfare service it helped launch 9 years ago

Mercedes-Benz official dealer Hansung Motors is stepping in again to support a community laundry welfare service for vulnerable residents in Busan's Suyeong-gu — this time to replace equipment worn out after nearly a decade of use. The company originally donated commercial washers and dryers when the project launched in 2017.

Hansung Motors announced Tuesday it will fund the replacement of aging equipment at the "Kkuljam Duvet Laundry" facilities operating in Suyeong-gu.

The Kkuljam Duvet Laundry is a mobile welfare service that collects heavy bedding from elderly people living alone and other vulnerable households, washes and dries it, and returns it to their homes. Volunteers also visit each household in person to check on residents' wellbeing, giving the program a broader community care function beyond laundry alone.

Hansung Motors helped launch the initiative in 2017 by donating commercial washers and dryers to two facilities — a laundry center in Gwangan 1-dong and another in Minnak-dong. The aim was to ease the burden on elderly and low-income residents who have difficulty washing large items such as duvets on their own.

The facilities have since served as welfare infrastructure for elderly and vulnerable residents in the area for about nine years. However, prolonged use left some equipment worn out, and a combination of breakdowns and discontinued parts made normal operations increasingly difficult, creating a clear need for replacement.

In response, Hansung Motors agreed to fund a new washer for the Minnak-dong facility and both a washer and dryer for the Gwangan 1-dong site. The move has been recognized as an example of sustained corporate social responsibility, as the company is not only revisiting a project it helped start but also addressing problems that emerged over the course of its operation.

The support extends a community partnership Hansung Motors has maintained with the Suyeong-gu district office since 2014. The company runs welfare support programs twice a year — once in the first half and once in the second — in cooperation with the local community.

"The Kkuljam Duvet Laundry is a meaningful project that goes beyond simple laundry support — it also looks after the daily comfort and wellbeing of elderly residents in the community," Hansung Motors CEO Bae Gyu-hwan said. "We will continue to identify where help is needed and carry out social contribution activities that make a real difference in people's lives."
