Gwangjin-gu Launches One-Stop Cleanup Drive, From Weed Removal to Trash Collection

Gwangjin-gu has launched an intensive weed-removal campaign along roadsides, sidewalks and alleyways across residential areas as the district braces for the height of summer, aiming to create a cleaner and safer environment for pedestrians.

With temperatures rising and the rainy season approaching, the district determined that rapidly spreading weeds were damaging the urban streetscape and inconveniencing residents. It has designated a dedicated "intensive residential weed control period" and is mobilizing all available resources to address the problem.

The cleanup goes beyond simple weeding. Workers are also collecting abandoned household waste, fallen leaves and discarded items left along roadsides to maximize the overall impact of the operation. Byproducts and piles of pulled weeds will be promptly removed and disposed of to prevent secondary inconvenience to residents.

Environmental maintenance workers have been deployed to sites from the early morning hours, sweeping through not only major arterial roads but also narrow back streets, green belts and the surroundings of public facilities.

The district plans to continue weeding operations on an ongoing basis, taking into account seasonal maintenance needs and on-site conditions. Areas where residents file complaints will be promptly inspected and addressed through a mobile response unit as part of the district's hands-on approach to local administration.

"I am deeply grateful for the dedication of our environmental maintenance workers, who toil away in the sweltering heat for the safety and comfort of our residents," Gwangjin-gu District Mayor Kim Kyong-ho said. "We will continue to focus on ground-level environmental upkeep that directly affects residents' daily lives, leaving no inconvenience unaddressed, so we can build a cleaner urban environment."
