Jang Dong-hyeok calls 'salmon drinking party' case 'most horrific fabrication' in South Korean history

People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyeok said Tuesday that the so-called "salmon drinking party" case is "the most horrific fabrication and incitement incident in the history of South Korea," warning that the country has no future if the matter is allowed to pass without consequence.

In a Facebook post Tuesday, Jang said "the salmon drinking party coup has failed" and accused Lee Jae Myung of single-handedly causing "an enormous destruction of the constitutional order that has torn down democracy and the rule of law in South Korea."

He said "the root of the judicial coup that made it all possible was none other than the 'salmon drinking party,'" adding that a court had issued a guilty verdict confirming the incident was fabricated. "The withdrawal of the indictment is now completely off the table," he said.

Jang said a parliamentary investigation by the National Assembly had only served to confirm that the "salmon drinking party" was a fabrication. He urged that lawmakers who had manipulated witnesses and reference persons during the investigation be held legally accountable, and called for the immediate impeachment of Justice Minister Jeong Seong-ho.

He also said that if President Lee does not abandon the push to withdraw the indictment, "impeachment is the only path left for President Lee Jae Myung," and urged the court to resume Lee's trial. "If you do not want to see a second fabricated incitement like the salmon drinking party, the only answer is to resume the Lee Jae Myung trial," he said.
