Hands-on programs to run alongside the touring show
The Dooly Museum of the Dobong Cultural Foundation in Dobong-gu, Seoul — led by district mayor Oh Eon-seok — will take its acclaimed exhibition "K-Ramyun and Coal Briquette" on a touring run, with stops in Taebaek and Iksan.
The exhibition draws on the "Ramyun and Coal Briquette" episode from the Dooly cartoon series to trace the history of the ramyun industry in Dobong-gu and chart the global rise of K-ramyun.
The museum secured 125 million won ($81,400) in funding after being selected for the "K-Museum Regional Touring Exhibition and Tour Support Project, Museum Eum," organized by the Korea Museum Association and hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
The first stop, developed in collaboration with the Taebaek Paleozoic Natural History Museum, runs from July 4 to Aug. 30 in the third-floor special exhibition hall of that museum.
The Taebaek edition weaves in the city's coal-mining heritage, presenting special stories and displays featuring the baby dinosaur Dooly. Visitors will encounter a range of Dooly character installations throughout the museum during the run.
On Aug. 1 and 2, hands-on workshops will let participants build their own models of Ceratosaurus — the dinosaur that inspired the Dooly character — and trilobites, the fossil most closely associated with Taebaek.
The exhibition then moves to the Iksan Culture and Arts Traveler Lounge, operated by the Iksan Culture and Tourism Foundation, where it runs from Oct. 13 to Nov. 29.
