Daewoo Engineering showcases AI safety tech at Gwacheon G-TOWN site

Daewoo Engineering & Construction is expanding its use of AI-based smart safety technology to strengthen safety management at its construction sites.

The company held a safety and health communication forum at its G-TOWN development construction site in Gwacheon, Gyeonggi Province, on June 22, where it demonstrated AI-based smart safety technologies, it announced Wednesday.

The forum was organized to allow CEO Kim Bo-hyun and other senior executives to visit the site in person, review safety management conditions and communicate directly with workers. Demonstrations of AI-based smart safety technologies and case studies were also shared at the event.

One of the AI systems introduced at the site was a real-time translation system designed to improve foreign workers' comprehension of safety training. The system delivers morning briefings, Tool Box Meetings and other safety education content in multiple languages in real time.

Workers can access translated content instantly by scanning a QR code with their mobile phones. The system's accuracy has been enhanced by pre-loading construction site-specific terminology.

An AI-powered CCTV smart integrated safety monitoring system is also in operation at the site. It detects risky behavior and abnormal situations in real time to enable immediate response.

The system also strengthens overall on-site safety management through restricted zone access control and location tracking. It is designed to detect a range of hazardous situations — including unguarded sections, workers not wearing protective equipment, fires and worker collapses — to prevent accidents and enable rapid response.

A tablet-based smart safety and health education system has also been introduced. New workers can use the tablets to complete initial health screenings and onboarding procedures, and to watch safety and health training videos.

The system supports 13 languages, allowing foreign workers to receive training without language barriers. Daewoo Engineering & Construction said it has digitized paper-based workflows to improve operational efficiency and move toward a paperless job site.

Daewoo Engineering & Construction is pursuing a range of safety management initiatives under the goal of "building a safety culture through communication and participation," including activating workers' right to stop work, expanding smart safety systems and conducting regular executive-led site inspections.

"We plan to expand our AI-based smart safety management framework across all sites to minimize blind spots in safety coverage," a company official said. "We will continue to actively reflect feedback from the field and keep expanding the adoption of smart safety technology to create a safer and more efficient working environment."

Meanwhile, Daewoo Engineering & Construction opened "Summit Mok-dong Lounge," a customer experience space for its high-end residential brand Summit, in Mok-dong, Yangcheon-gu, Seoul, on June 17, formally entering the competition for reconstruction contracts in the Mok-dong area.
