Marketing push targets Singapore, Taiwan, US; aims for 2 million foreign members by year-end
<style ref="s0"> </style><style ref="s1">Lotte Members announced Wednesday it has partnered with Mastercard to expand its L.Point global membership program targeting foreign tourists visiting Korea.</style>
Building on the partnership, the company launched a global membership introduction page for customers in Japan on June 1. It plans to extend its marketing to key markets with high numbers of Korea-bound tourists, including Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong and the United States. Prospective members can sign up via email verification from their home country before traveling to Korea. Upon arrival, they can earn and redeem points through their smartphones without a physical card.
According to the Korea Tourism Organization, the total number of foreign tourists who visited Korea last year reached about 18.94 million, up 15.7 percent from the previous year. The number of foreign tourists enrolled as L.Point members surpassed roughly 670,000 last year. Through the global membership expansion, Lotte Members aims to grow that figure to 2 million by the end of this year.
When foreign tourists use L.Point affiliate services, data on their nationality, spending patterns and preferred categories accumulates. Affiliates span shopping, tourism and accommodation — including Lotte Mart, Lotte World, Lotte Hotel and Lotte Duty Free. Lotte Members plans to use this data to refine its customized marketing for foreign customers.
<style ref="s2">A Lotte Members official said the company would "deliver an integrated membership experience with L.Point from the moment foreign tourists start planning their trip to the moment they return home," adding that it aims "to grow L.Point into a global membership platform that represents Korea."</style>
