Police have identified the woman dubbed "Ol-Darc" — a portmanteau of "Olympic Park" and "Joan of Arc" — who blocked the Korea Sports Council from entering the Olympic Park handball arena in Seoul. Authorities plan to summon the woman, identified only as A, who is in her 30s, for questioning.
The Seoul Songpa Police Station announced Wednesday that it had identified A and issued a summons after she was accused of obstructing the Korea Sports Council's entry into the handball arena at Olympic Park in Songpa-gu, Seoul.
On June 16, A blocked the arena doors with both hands as the Korea Sports Council and other sports organizations based at the venue attempted to enter to continue their operations. Although the sports groups, police and protest organizers had reached an agreement allowing entry, A's refusal to release the doors prevented them from getting inside.
Conservative online communities subsequently dubbed her "Ol-Darc," combining "Olympic Park" and "Jeanne d'Arc."
Police have been identifying and summoning individuals suspected of assault, aggravated coercion and other illegal acts near the protest site, but pinning down A's identity had taken more than a week. Officers at the scene were unable to confirm her identity at the time and let her go.
Police plan to summon A and investigate her on charges of obstructing the Korea Sports Council's operations.
