Singer Kim Ho-joong, set to be released from prison Tuesday, is expected to focus on his health rather than returning to the entertainment industry right away.
Kim was indicted on charges including drunk driving and fleeing the scene after striking a taxi with his vehicle last year in the Apgujeong-dong area of Gangnam-gu, Seoul.
After his release, health recovery is expected to take priority over a stage comeback for now.
His agency told media recently that "it is difficult to discuss any activity plans at this point," adding that "the condition of both ankles had been poor even before the incident, and surgery is needed."
"There was originally a structural abnormality in the ankles, and he had not been able to receive proper treatment for a long time," the agency said. "After his release, the plan is to focus first on treatment and rehabilitation."
Kim had previously disclosed his long-standing ankle pain on the 2024 variety program "Miun Uri Saekki," which features celebrity mothers. He said he had badly injured his ankle while exercising in elementary school and wore a cast for about a month. "After my ligaments were stretched, the pain stayed with me like a chronic condition," he said.
After examining his ankles, doctors said the condition was "difficult to regard as that of a 32-year-old" and diagnosed him as requiring surgery.
Meanwhile, Kim will be subject to probation supervision during his parole period and must obtain approval from the relevant authorities for any major changes to his circumstances, such as changing his place of residence or traveling abroad.
