Daegu mayor-elect Choo holds series of meetings with local medical community

Daegu Mayor-elect Choo Kyung-ho has been holding a series of on-site meetings with the local medical community to assess essential medical services — including emergency medicine and severe trauma care — as well as the broader regional healthcare industry, as he prepares public health policy for his incoming administration.

Choo visited the Clinical Skills Center at Yeungnam University College of Medicine at 5 p.m. Wednesday, touring its latest medical education facilities before meeting with Yeungnam University Medical Center President Kim Yong-dae and other officials.

He then met with the AI·Biotech Medicity Daegu Council.

On June 17, Choo visited Kyungpook National University Hospital, where he met with the Regional Essential Healthcare Committee of the AI·Biotech Medicity Daegu Council, a group of specialists in essential medical fields.

At the meeting with Yeungnam University Medical Center officials, participants discussed ways to strengthen medical education cooperation in the Daegu and North Gyeongsang Province region in connection with a new regional physician selection program — covering a combined 72 spots in Daegu and North Gyeongsang Province — set to be introduced from the 2027 academic year.

At the meeting with the AI·Biotech Medicity Daegu Council, Choo urged the organization to serve as a driving force for the development of the regional healthcare industry. "The role of the AI·Biotech Medicity Daegu Council has never been more important if local healthcare is to achieve global competitiveness," he said.

Choo pledged to actively incorporate feedback from the field into his administration's policies. "I will make sure medical professionals can focus solely on patient care by actively addressing the difficulties they face on the ground," he said. "I will do my utmost to reflect the voices from the field in the policies of the ninth elected administration."
