Reborn Car says maintenance history, options matter more than price when buying used

Reborn Car, a non-face-to-face certified used-car platform, on Thursday shared tips for smarter used-car purchases, drawing on the field consulting experience of its sales managers.

Growing numbers of consumers are turning to used vehicles instead of new ones amid recent fuel price swings and rising living costs. According to Kaizu Data Research Institute, compact cars — including the Kia Morning, Chevrolet Spark and Kia Ray — ranked among the top-selling models in the used-car market in May, reflecting a continued consumer preference for practicality.

Reborn Car advised buyers not to judge a vehicle's condition solely by whether an insurance claim was filed, but to also examine the nature of the accident and how repairs were carried out. The company said it is important to check whether the vehicle was repaired through proper procedures at an authorized manufacturer service center and whether the accident affected the car's main structural frame.

The company also said mileage should not be treated as an absolute measure of a vehicle's condition. A car with relatively low mileage for its age may have accumulated wear from repeated stop-and-go city driving, while one with higher mileage that has received consistent scheduled maintenance and regular consumable replacements can offer strong value for the price.

Reborn Car also recommended checking a vehicle's option configuration to maximize satisfaction after purchase. Features such as smart cruise control, around-view monitoring and a sunroof enhance driving convenience and remain highly sought after in the used-car market. Neutral exterior colors — white and black — along with beige interior seats also see consistently strong demand, the company said.

Replacement records for key consumables such as engine oil and tires were also cited as important factors to verify. Because additional costs arise when consumables need replacing immediately after a vehicle is acquired, buyers should factor in future maintenance and upkeep expenses alongside the purchase price, the company said.

Reborn Car inspects its vehicles at its own reconditioning center, known as the RTC, applying a proprietary quality inspection standard called RQI (RebornCar Quality Inspection). Inspection results are published alongside the vehicle performance report on each car's detail page. The company also supports customers in thoroughly assessing a vehicle's condition through its eight-day worry-free return service and pre-delivery inspection service.
