Namsun Aluminium's auto division wins GM supplier quality award for third time

Namsun Aluminium's automotive business division, a manufacturing affiliate of SM Group, announced Thursday that it has received General Motors' 2025 Supplier Quality Excellence Award (SQEA).

It is the third time the division has won the SQEA, following previous wins in 2017 and 2018. The recognition comes after the division was named to GM's "Supplier of the Year" list last month for the 15th consecutive year, further cementing its quality credentials.

The SQEA is presented by GM to outstanding suppliers worldwide based on assessments of production processes and quality management systems. Recipients are selected through a comprehensive evaluation of nine criteria, including defect rates, factory shutdown records and on-time delivery performance.

Namsun Aluminium's automotive division received a perfect score — with no deductions across all nine categories — in GM's evaluation of the bumper systems and injection molds it supplies.

The company said it has strengthened its quality competitiveness by operating a one-stop integrated production system that manages every stage in-house, from mold design and injection molding through painting and assembly.

"This is the result of sustained investment in advanced painting technology and durability testing, even as supply chain risks have grown," said Jung Soon-won, chief executive of Namsun Aluminium's automotive business division. "We will continue to maintain world-class quality and supply stability to further strengthen our partnership with GM."
