Hy to hold 19th International Academic Symposium marking 50th anniversary of central research lab

Hy will hold its 19th International Academic Symposium on July 1 to mark the 50th anniversary of its central research laboratory.

The company has hosted the symposium on the theme of lactic acid bacteria and health since 1979, aiming to contribute to the advancement of domestic academia and industry. This year's event is the first since the 18th symposium in 2013, a gap of 13 years.

The symposium will be held under the subtitle "Probiotics Beyond the Gut: Advancements in Probiotics Through Integrative Science and Technology." Kim Ji-yeon, a professor in the Department of Food Science and Technology at Seoul National University of Science and Technology, will serve as moderator. Speakers include Elad Taco, a professor at Cornell University; Huh Jun-ryeol, a professor at Harvard University; Lim Shin-hyeok, a professor at Pohang University of Science and Technology; and Choi Il-dong, head of Hy's new growth team.

The speakers are expected to present on topics including the effects of specific bacterial strains on gut function and the microbiome, immune-boosting effects identified through clinical trials and microbiome analysis, and the latest research trends in probiotics.

"We will use this symposium as an opportunity to strengthen our competitiveness in microbiome research and contribute to public health," said Lee Jae-hwan, director of Hy's central research laboratory.
