Kwak Tube watches South Africa match live, expresses disappointment at Korea's loss

Content creator and broadcaster Kwak Tube, whose real name is Kwak Jun-bin, expressed disappointment over South Korea's result after watching the team's match against South Africa in person.

Kwak posted photos Wednesday along with a message that read: "I returned to Mexico from Korea on Wednesday. I'm so disappointed. On my way back after watching the match."

The photos showed Kwak at Estadio BBVA in Monterrey, Mexico, where he attended South Korea's Group A third-round match against South Africa at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North and Central America. He cheered enthusiastically with his face painted in the colors of the South Korean flag, but was left deflated as the team fell to defeat.

South Korea, coached by Hong Myung-bo, lost 1-0 to South Africa.

A draw would have secured South Korea second place in the group and a spot in the round of 32, but the team finished third with one win and two losses — three points — behind Mexico (nine points) and South Africa (four points).

South Korea cannot advance on its own and must wait on results from other groups in hopes of claiming a wild-card berth. To reach the round of 32, the team must finish among the top eight third-place sides across all 12 groups.

Kwak had earlier traveled to Guadalajara, Mexico, to cheer on South Korea at the World Cup. After attending the match against the Czech Republic, he returned home rather than staying for the Mexico game.

At the time, he explained: "I won't be able to watch the Mexico match. I have some regular broadcasts to do, and my son is turning 100 days old — it sounds funny, but I'm going back to Korea briefly. I'll miss the Mexico match, go straight to Korea, and then head to a place called Monterrey to watch the South Africa game."

Meanwhile, Kwak married a civil servant five years his junior last October and announced the birth of a son in March.
