Closing ceremony held Thursday at the district-run 50 Plus Center; committee reviewed implementation plans for 109 campaign pledges, with findings to be compiled into a white paper
The transition committee for the Dongdaemun-gu district mayor's office concluded its nine-day official activities Thursday, holding a closing ceremony and review session on the second floor of the district-run 50 Plus Center in Seoul.
About 70 people attended, including mayor-elect Choi Dong-min, transition committee chair Kim Do-gyeong, committee and advisory members, Deputy District Mayor Kim Gi-hyeon, department and division heads, the chief of the Dongdaemun-gu Facilities Management Corporation, and officials from the Dongdaemun Culture Foundation.
The committee was formed under Article 105 of the Local Autonomy Act and officially launched with a signboard installation and appointment ceremony on June 15. It then received briefings on overall district administration from June 17 through June 25, and discussed policy proposals on implementing the incoming administration's campaign pledges and key pending issues.
The committee comprised 15 transition members and 15 advisory members. They conducted briefings and question-and-answer sessions with every district office department, as well as affiliated agencies including the Dongdaemun-gu Facilities Management Corporation and the Dongdaemun Culture Foundation, to assess the direction of the incoming administration.
The closing ceremony proceeded in order: opening remarks, a presentation of activity results, reflections from committee members, a speech by the mayor-elect, the formal dissolution, and a commemorative photo.
The results presentation identified cross-departmental priorities, including strengthening communication and cooperation, incorporating residents' opinions into policy, preparing for an AI transformation, and producing tangible outcomes for residents. Key proposals from each department were also shared and compiled as tasks to be reflected in the incoming administration's operations.
In their closing remarks, committee members said they hoped the committee's policy proposals would "serve as a solid foundation for the incoming administration," that the proposals should "translate into policies residents can actually feel," and that "sustained communication and cooperation with the executive branch will be essential."
Committee chair Kim Do-gyeong said the committee's role had been "the process of sketching the broad blueprint for a new beginning," adding that "the white paper documenting our activities will not be the committee's final period, but the starting point of change for the incoming administration."
Kim added that he hoped "the policies proposed by the transition committee will be carried out without disruption throughout the term, so that residents can feel the change."
Mayor-elect Choi Dong-min said "the essence of the transition committee is succession and development, as well as change and innovation," pledging to "carry forward the achievements of the previous administration constructively and build the changes and innovations residents want together with the community."
Choi also said he would "implement the 109 campaign pledges in order of priority" and, after taking office, "visit all 15 dong in person to communicate with residents and actively reflect their on-the-ground opinions in district administration."
The committee plans to compile the results of its activities into a white paper to serve as foundational material for the incoming administration.
