The Gyeonggi Center for Economic Promotion (GCEP) said a biotech company it supports signed an exclusive license agreement with a Brazilian firm at the 2026 BIO International Convention (BIO USA 2026), held in San Diego from June 22 to 25, marking a breakthrough into overseas markets.
BIO USA is the world's largest biotech and pharmaceutical trade show, drawing global pharmaceutical companies, biotech firms, investors and research institutions. This year's event featured the latest trends and technologies in drug development, biotech, digital health and advanced medical technology.
GCEP supported the participation of 11 Gyeonggi Province-based companies in total — five as part of a joint Korean pavilion and six as independent exhibitors.
The participating companies showcased their technologies and products through exhibition booths and business meetings, discussing potential partnerships with overseas investors and global pharmaceutical and biotech firms in areas including investment attraction, joint research, technology transfer and new export channels.
The licensing deal is seen as a foothold for Gyeonggi biotech companies entering the Latin American market, with expectations that it will lead to further expansion across Brazil and the broader region and deepen global business cooperation.
GCEP said it expects the BIO USA participation to accelerate the global expansion of Gyeonggi-based biotech firms. The agency plans to continue expanding support for overseas trade show participation, investment consultations, global partner development and export marketing.
