Boosting online competitiveness of a lifestyle and kitchenware wholesale hub with 250 stores
Portal search, news outlet and Google banner ads, and Naver Band campaigns to run June–September
Gangseo-gu in Seoul is launching an online promotional support initiative to strengthen the competitiveness of the Gangseo Distribution Market Shopping District, a major wholesale hub in the city.
Located along Gukhoedaero in Hwagok-dong, the Gangseo Distribution Market Shopping District is a wholesale-focused commercial zone with 250 stores and more than 350 workers. It has long served as a pillar of the local economy, supplying a wide range of consumer goods — including kitchenware, home appliances, everyday household items and stationery — at competitive prices.
In line with the rapid shift toward online retail, the district office is rolling out an "online promotion and sales channel support project" as part of a broader support program for small and medium-sized enterprise cooperatives.
The project runs for four months from June through September, with a focus on online marketing designed to improve consumer access and drive actual purchases.
Key support measures include search advertising on major portals such as Naver and Kakao, online banner advertising, and Naver Band banner ads along with efforts to grow the district's own Naver Band community.
The initiative goes beyond simple portal exposure by activating a dedicated online band community, with the aim of helping quality wholesale products from within the distribution complex reach customers nationwide.
The support is expected to raise the Gangseo Distribution Market Shopping District's public profile and inject new energy into a local commercial area that has been weighed down by high inflation.
Earlier, in 2024, the district office established a Customer Support Center equipped with a customer lounge, meeting rooms and buyer consultation spaces, laying the groundwork for the area's development into a specialized retail destination. Last year, it also successfully held the Gangseo Distribution Complex Hanmaeum Festival, creating a platform for merchants, residents and visitors to come together.
"We will actively support the Gangseo Distribution Complex — a traditional wholesale commercial district — in expanding into the online market," District Mayor Jin Kyo-hoon said. "We will continue to strengthen the self-sufficiency of small and medium-sized enterprise cooperatives and pursue effective commercial revitalization policies that merchants can feel on the ground."
