Up to 3 units per complex for buildings with 150 or more households — covering new installations and replacements of aging bins
Dongjak-gu is rolling out a support project to install and replace used cooking oil collection bins at apartment complexes, aiming to promote proper waste separation and improve residents' living environment.
As of January, about 61 percent of the 138 apartment complexes in the district already operate used cooking oil collection bins. Last year, more than 42 tons of used cooking oil were collected and recycled as raw material for biodiesel and industrial fuel.
In response, the district will again this year support the installation of 45-liter stainless steel used cooking oil collection bins at apartment complexes with 150 or more households.
Complexes without existing bins will receive new installations, while those with aging units will have them replaced. A designated contractor will handle regular collection and maintenance.
Eligible apartment complexes can apply through the integrated reservation system on the Dongjak-gu website, under the "Dongjak Reservation — Lifestyle Service" menu. Applications must be submitted under the management office's name for up to three bins per complex and will close once the budget is exhausted.

The district said it plans to use the project to improve residents' convenience in waste separation and further spread a culture of resource recycling in everyday life.
"We expect this project to help residents dispose of used cooking oil properly, preventing water pollution and contributing to resource recycling," Dongjak-gu Mayor Park Il-ha said. "We will continue to expand policies that provide residents with a pleasant living environment."
