250 spots open to students from 5th grade through 10th grade in airport noise zones — online applications accepted through July 17; program covers AI basics, an SBS studio tour, masterclasses by working PDs and broadcasters, and hands-on content production
Yangcheon-gu (district mayor Lee Gi-jae) has launched the "Yangcheon PR Academy," a new program designed to expand career-exploration opportunities for young residents in the district's airport noise zones and cultivate the next generation of media talent. Applications are open through July 17.
The program was selected through a Korea Airports Corporation grant competition and is open to students from the fifth grade of elementary school through the first year of high school who aspire to careers in media — as content creators, YouTubers, broadcast producers or announcers. Participants will experience the full arc of a media career, from AI basics and a broadcast station tour to time with working professionals and hands-on content production.
The program runs for two weeks during the summer vacation period, from July 27 through Aug. 7, across four sessions.
The first session features "AI Fundamentals with an Expert," led by Kim In-ae, a senior researcher at the Korea Creative Content Agency. She will introduce how the content industry is evolving in the AI era and cover the latest media trends, with a focus on content strategies and formats that resonate with Generation Z.
The second session takes participants on an on-site tour of the SBS broadcasting center in Mokdong, where they will visit radio and TV master control rooms and news and entertainment studios to gain a broad understanding of media roles and production workflows.
The third session, a "Media Career Concert with Working Professionals," features two mentors: Son Jeong-min, a PD whose credits include the SBS programs "Curious Story Y" and "Stories That Follow Stories," and Ahn Hyeon-mo, a broadcaster and former SBS reporter and anchor. The pair will share firsthand experiences and candid career stories, with an in-depth Q&A session aimed at helping students work through their career questions.
The fourth and final session is a hands-on "Create Your Own AI Content" workshop. Drawing on what they have learned in the earlier sessions, participants will plan and produce their own content — articles, videos, short-form clips and more — in areas of their choosing. Finished works will be shared with the group, and standout pieces will be recognized with awards.
Participants who complete all four sessions of the linked track — designed to build practical skills as media creators — will receive a certificate of completion at a graduation ceremony along with a special commemorative gift in recognition of their commitment.
A total of 250 spots are available. To give as many students as possible a chance to take part, the district has structured enrollment in two tracks. The linked track, covering all four sessions, will accept 50 participants, while the first and third sessions will each accept 100 participants separately, allowing students to sign up for just the session that interests them.
Applications are accepted online via Google Forms through July 17, and final participants will be selected by computerized lottery. For more information, contact the Yangcheon-gu Office's Public Relations Division.
"I hope the Yangcheon PR Academy — launching for the first time this year — will give young people in the airport noise zones a meaningful opportunity to experience the latest AI media trends firsthand and take concrete steps toward their dreams," district mayor Lee said. "We will continue to expand a wide range of career education programs so that local youth can build the skills they need for the future and broaden their sense of what is possible."
