LG, police agency and Red Cross sign MOU to support child and youth victims of violence

LG Corp, the Korean National Police Agency and the Korean Red Cross signed a three-way MOU on Friday at the police agency's headquarters in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, to provide emergency support for children and youth who have experienced violence.

The three organizations plan to form a working-level consultative body following the agreement to discuss project implementation and further areas of cooperation.

LG Corp will donate 600 million won ($390,000) to help build a support system for young victims' recovery and growth. The Korean National Police Agency will identify children and youth in need, while the Korean Red Cross will provide tailored recovery programs suited to each victim's circumstances.

Child and youth victims from economically disadvantaged households will be eligible to receive up to 3 million won in cash assistance per household for up to two months. Vulnerable families will also be paired with volunteer workers who will conduct home visits, provide basic necessities and offer psychological recovery programs. Customized support will be available for victims from specific groups, including women, children and multicultural families.

The initiative was launched to foster a safer society and help young victims of violence return to their daily lives and grow in a healthy environment.

Until last year, LG Household, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency and the Seoul chapter of the Korean Red Cross had carried out the support project on a regional basis.

Starting this year, LG Corp, the Korean National Police Agency and the Korean Red Cross agreed to expand the program nationwide. To that end, LG Corp doubled its donation from 300 million won to 600 million won and plans to strengthen coordination with the two partner organizations to build a more integrated ecosystem for violence prevention.

Since 2019, LG Corp has donated a total of 2 billion won, supporting the economic independence of households affected by violence and running violence-prevention education programs for elementary and middle school students.

"We have brought together the group's capabilities to create a society free from violence and to provide meaningful help to victims," an LG Corp official said. "We will continue to work closely with the Korean National Police Agency and the Korean Red Cross to ensure that children can grow up safely in a world without violence."
