Daewoo Engineering & Construction publishes 2026 sustainability report

Daewoo Engineering & Construction on Friday published its 2026 Sustainability Report, disclosing the economic, social and environmental value and performance generated through its business activities to stakeholders.

The company has published a sustainability report every year since releasing its first in 2012. This year's edition is the 15th.

The report was prepared in accordance with the Global Reporting Initiative Standards 2021, an internationally recognized sustainability disclosure framework. It also applied the "double materiality" assessment methodology required under the EU's Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive.

The double materiality assessment identifies key issues by considering not only the impact a company has on society and the environment, but also how social and environmental changes affect the company's financial performance and business operations.

Through this process, Daewoo Engineering & Construction identified five material issues: customer satisfaction and quality management, AI and smart construction system development, occupational health and safety management, climate change response, and ethics and compliance management.

The company presented this year's management vision — "Challenge for the Future, Hyper E&C" — as the new direction for its sustainability efforts. Three core values underpin the vision: "Hyper Safety," "Hyper Quality" and "Hyper Connect."

Under Hyper Safety, the company identified and assessed major safety-related risks and opportunities, and incorporated requirements from the first domestic sustainability disclosure standard issued by the Korea Sustainability Standards Board. Daewoo Engineering & Construction said it has built a safety and health information management system to prepare for increasingly stringent disclosure requirements ahead.

The Hyper Quality section highlights achievements in strengthening quality management. The company operates quality inspection and improvement procedures throughout the entire project lifecycle and has expanded pre-checks on key processes to reinforce on-site quality management.

The company also expanded the scope of Q-BOX, its digital quality management platform, to improve operational efficiency and advance the digital transformation of construction sites.

The Hyper Connect section covers the company's digital innovation efforts using AI and smart construction technology. It also details a digital collaboration framework and data-driven decision-making processes centered on the Smart Construction Alliance, an internal consultative body.

Daewoo Engineering & Construction launched the "ESG Working Group," a company-wide environmental, social and governance collaboration platform, and introduced an "ESG Points" program that rewards employees with points for participating in carbon-reduction activities — measures aimed at spreading an ESG culture across the organization.

The report also covers the company's community and environmental initiatives. Daewoo Engineering & Construction has been expanding its environmental protection and community development activities, including ecological conservation work along the Jungnangcheon stream in partnership with local governments and environmental groups.

The company also broadened its climate-related disclosures. To get ahead of mandatory climate disclosure requirements, it incorporated the second domestic sustainability disclosure standard on climate-related reporting, and expanded the scope of ESG data — including greenhouse gas emissions — disclosed for overseas operations.

"We will continue to strengthen our competitiveness in safety, quality and digital innovation, centered on Hyper Safety, Hyper Quality and Hyper Connect," a company official said. "We will build a sustainable future in a safer, more precise and more innovative way."

Meanwhile, Daewoo Engineering & Construction this month held a safety and health communication forum at the G-Town development project construction site in Gwacheon, Gyeonggi Province, where it demonstrated AI-based smart safety technology — part of its broader effort to apply AI to advanced safety management at construction sites.
