Art Korea Lab seeks participants for 'Open Prompt Community' colloquia

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and Art Korea Lab, operated by the Korea Arts Management Service, announced Friday they are accepting applications for the "Open Prompt Community Colloquium," a program exploring artistic creation processes and methodologies using generative AI.

The colloquium is a workshop-style program for artists, planners, researchers and creators with experience in generative AI-based creative work. Participants share the questions, failures and discoveries they have encountered in their own creative processes and develop prompts into a broader creative methodology.

The colloquium runs across five Lab tracks. The first round of recruitment covers three sessions: Recipe Lab Round 1 (Oh Young-jin), Brewery Lab Round 1 (Jeon Yu-jin and Hong Min-gi of Seoul Express) and Brewery Lab Round 2 (Kim Won-jong). Recipe Lab explores prompt techniques and creative principles, while Brewery Lab experiments with AI-based creation using text, images and code, including AI visual upscaling.

Applications are open through Saturday, with each track accepting around 20 participants. Recipe Lab Round 2 and Brewery Lab Round 3 are scheduled to follow in August.

Alongside the colloquium, a monthly seminar series called "Post-mortem" will run from June through November for a total of six sessions. The program is designed to share not only successes in AI-assisted creation but also the process of experimentation, failure, obstacles and decision-making.

Oh Young-jin, a professor serving as the program's overall director, said the Open Prompt Community is "a space for sharing questions and trial-and-error in AI creative processes with fellow creators," adding that he hopes "participants will explore new possibilities in AI creation together by sharing their own prompts and creative methodologies."

An Art Korea Lab official said the program is meaningful in that it "accumulates and shares not just the outputs of generative AI use, but the creative processes and methodologies behind them," and that the lab will continue to support artists and creators in "interpreting and expanding AI as their own creative language."
