Showers of 5–20 mm forecast for Incheon, northern Gyeonggi Province and northern Gangwon Province on Sunday
Most inland areas across South Korea will swelter under daytime highs of 30 degrees Celsius or above on Saturday. The Korea Meteorological Administration forecast afternoon peaks of 24 to 32 degrees.
Expected highs for major cities include Seoul at 32 degrees, Incheon at 30, Suwon at 31, Gangneung at 27, Cheongju at 31, Daejeon at 32, Gwangju at 32, Daegu at 32, Busan at 27 and Jeju at 26.
Skies will be mostly clear nationwide. The central regions will see occasional clouds from the afternoon, while the southern regions and Jeju Island will be partly cloudy before gradually clearing toward late afternoon.
The weather agency urged the public to stay hydrated and avoid strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day. It also advised infants, the elderly and people with chronic illnesses to limit time outdoors, and recommended that outdoor workplaces prepare shaded rest areas and cool drinking water.
The heat is expected to intensify on Sunday, with morning lows of 14 to 22 degrees and afternoon highs of 24 to 33 degrees. The apparent temperature in some inland areas could climb to around 31 degrees.
Scattered showers of 5 to 20 millimeters are forecast for Sunday afternoon in Incheon, northern Gyeonggi Province and the inland and mountainous areas of northern Gangwon Province. The showers may be accompanied by strong gusts, thunder and lightning in some areas, with rainfall amounts varying considerably by location.
