Steve Seung-jun Yoo calls himself 'Korean American,' says he'll root for Korea

Korean American singer Steve Seung-jun Yoo introduced himself as "Korean American" in a new video, expressing his affection for Korea.

On Saturday, Yoo posted a video filmed inside a car to his Instagram account.

"There's a reason 'Korean' comes before 'American,'" he said. "I proudly hold onto my Korean roots and I'm also grateful for the life I've built in America. I don't think I have to choose one over the other."

He also responded to a comment asking which country he would root for if Korea and the United States played each other in soccer. "Korea, of course," he said. "I live in America, but as a Korean American, I want Korea to win."

On Friday, Yoo posted a video cheering for South Korea's national soccer team. "A lot has happened in my life, but one thing hasn't changed — no matter what anyone says, I support South Korea," he said.

Earlier, in a YouTube video posted June 4, Yoo signaled he was giving up on trying to enter South Korea. "I've apologized sincerely and explained many times why I had no choice but to make that decision, but it seems my feelings haven't gotten through," he said. "I've done what I can. I'm now going to let go of the matter of entering Korea."
