New courses including 'Build Your Own AI Chatbot Assistant' and 'Practical Domestic Stock Market Investing' launch July 20, tailored to the latest learning trends; first-come, first-served enrollment for 645 spots opens July 6 via the district office website; in the second quarter, 18 courses drew 662 participants
Seoul's Seongdong-gu district will launch its third-quarter regular course lineup at the Seongdong Lifelong Learning Center starting July 20, reflecting residents' demand for learning and the latest educational trends.
The center runs a diverse range of regular courses each quarter so that any district resident can access learning opportunities close to their daily lives.
The second-quarter program, which ran from May, drew strong enthusiasm. A total of 662 residents enrolled across 18 courses — including "AI for Everyday Life and Work," "Reading the Humanities Classics in Depth," and "Reading History Through People: 'Sagi Sagi' — Human Desire and the Choices That Shaped It" — with many courses selling out the moment registration opened.
Building on that response, the district has prepared 17 varied courses for the third quarter, again reflecting resident demand and current trends. The courses are divided into five fields — university partnerships, digital, humanities and liberal arts, culture and arts, and health and lifestyle — with a combined capacity of 645 participants.
In the digital field, a new course titled "The AI Era: Build Your Own Reliable Work Assistant (Chatbot)" has been added to help residents use generative AI to boost workplace efficiency.
Additional courses will cover a range of humanities and practical topics: the origins of Western culture through Homer's world (offered in partnership with a university), a literary travel course on Portugal, a journey through Joseon history from King Taejo to Emperor Sunjong, and a practical guide to investing in the domestic stock market.
All third-quarter courses will be held in person at the Seongdong Lifelong Learning Center (Dokseodang) from July 20 through Aug. 31. Tuition is free, though materials fees may apply separately.
Registration opens at 9 a.m. on July 6 on a first-come, first-served basis through the rapid-reservation system on the Seongdong-gu district office website. Detailed schedules and course descriptions are available on the Seongdong Lifelong Learning Center website or through the district office's education support division.
"For the third quarter, we have put together an even more diverse and high-quality lineup — from AI courses with strong practical applications in daily life and work, to the humanities and arts," a district official said. "We will continue to do our best to build a lifelong learning environment where every resident can enjoy the pleasure of learning and grow a little more each day."
