Free use of Omok Park's corridor and central garden … couples design their own custom outdoor ceremony
Registration runs July 1 through July 17 via Yangcheon-gu's integrated reservation portal — 10 couples to be selected
Yangcheon-gu will begin accepting applications July 1 for its 2027 Omok Park Garden Wedding program, offering engaged couples the chance to hold a special ceremony surrounded by nature.
Amid growing difficulty securing wedding hall reservations and rising ceremony costs, the district has operated a "garden wedding" program using public park space since 2024 to ease the financial burden on couples and promote a healthier wedding culture.
The garden wedding is an outdoor ceremony set against the park's seasonally changing natural scenery. The venue occupies about 10 percent of the park's total area, spans 2,252 square meters and can accommodate up to 150 guests.
The program has drawn attention as a new model for wedding culture among couples who value meaning over formality, as it allows for a personalized ceremony shared with close family and friends.
Applications are open through the garden wedding page on Yangcheon-gu's integrated reservation portal. Either the engaged couple or one of their parents must be registered as a Yangcheon-gu resident as of the announcement date of June 1. The district will select 10 couples through a computerized lottery and also designate 20 couples as alternates.
Registration runs July 1 through July 17. Ceremonies will be held on designated Saturdays during the spring and fall seasons next year — April through June and September through October — for a total of 10 ceremonies, one couple per day. Venue use is entirely free of charge.
To prevent no-shows, the district requires a refundable deposit of 500,000 won ($324), which is returned in full upon completion of the ceremony. Cancellations are subject to a penalty fee based on the refund policy; any penalty will be donated to the Yangcheon Love Welfare Foundation for community use. Open flames are also prohibited to ensure visitor safety and smooth operation of the public facility.
"We hope many couples who want to create special memories with their loved ones in nature will take an interest and participate," Yangcheon-gu District Mayor Lee Gi-jae said. "We will continue to pursue a range of policies to spread a healthy wedding culture that reduces financial burden while adding deeper meaning."
