AI facility tours open to students from 4th grade through high school; AI boot camp for middle schoolers includes certification exam support
The Yeongdeungpo-gu Future Education Foundation, an affiliate of Yeongdeungpo-gu, is recruiting participants for two summer programs — an AI facility tour and an AI boot camp — designed to give young students hands-on experience with artificial intelligence and help them explore future career paths.
The programs are intended to let students visit research institutes, universities, and corporate sites where AI technology is actively used, and to deepen their understanding of future industries through experiential education.
The AI facility tour is open to 150 students in the district, from fourth-graders in elementary school through high school students.
The tour visits four sites: the Korea Institute of Science and Technology on July 29, Hanyang University's ERICA campus on July 31, LG Discovery Lab on Aug. 12, and Hyundai Motor Company's Asan factory on Aug. 14.
Participants will tour research facilities and exhibition halls, attend lectures by researchers, and take part in hands-on programs to observe how AI technology is applied in research and industry. The experience is designed to broaden students' understanding of advanced technology and open doors to future career exploration.
Alongside this, the foundation will run an AI boot camp for about 30 middle school students in the district. The camp will be held at the National Science Museum in Gwacheon from Aug. 5 to 6.
Participants will study core AI concepts including generative AI and data utilization, and gain problem-solving experience through block-coding-based practical training. The program also supports students in sitting for the AICE Future Level 2 certification exam, an AI proficiency test aligned with the curriculum.
Applications for the AI facility tour are open from July 8 to July 21, and applications for the AI boot camp from July 13 to July 28, both through the integrated reservation system on the Yeongdeungpo-gu Office website. Participants will be selected by computerized lottery.

"We hope it will be a rewarding time that nurtures their interest in and dreams about advanced technology."
