Event set for 5 p.m. July 1 at Guro District Citizens' Hall; nine community representatives to present district mayor with 'residents' letter of appointment' ahead of unity performance
Guro-gu will hold the inauguration ceremony for its 9th elected-term district mayor at the main auditorium of Guro District Citizens' Hall on July 1 at 5 p.m.
The ceremony marks the start of the 9th elected-term administration and is designed as an open event that any resident may attend freely. Rather than a protocol-heavy affair, the district is emphasizing resident participation and community unity.
The program opens with a pre-ceremony performance by the Guro District Boys and Girls Choir, followed by the opening, the national ceremony, introductions of distinguished guests, a biographical introduction of the district mayor, the presentation of residents' letters of appointment, the oath of office, the inaugural address, congratulatory remarks, a community unity performance, and a celebratory performance.
A highlight of the ceremony is a segment in which community representatives take part directly. Nine representatives — drawn from children and teenagers, youth, workers, small-business owners, women, volunteers, people with disabilities, multicultural families, and senior citizens — will each present District Mayor Jang with a "residents' letter of appointment" carrying the hopes and wishes of their communities.
The letters express residents' expectations for the new administration: a Guro where children grow up safely, where young people can pursue their ambitions and hold onto hope, where workers are treated with respect, where small neighborhood businesses are supported, and where no one is left behind.
Following the inaugural address, Jang and the nine community representatives will take part in a community unity performance. Using an LED display, the performance is meant to gather the hopes and expectations of residents and symbolize a shared new beginning for the 9th elected term.
For residents who cannot attend in person, the district will set up live YouTube viewing spaces at Gallery Guruji on the first floor of Guro District Citizens' Hall and at the outdoor stage of Guro Neighborhood Park. Medical personnel and an ambulance will be on standby, and drinking water stations and shade structures will be provided in preparation for the summer heat.
"The star of this inauguration is not the district mayor — it is the residents who will build Guro's future together," Jang said. "I will take the responsibility entrusted to me by residents to heart and work to make Guro a place that truly supports people's lives."
