Coupang Fulfillment Services chief vows stronger cooling infrastructure, heat-illness prevention

Coupang Fulfillment Services (CFS) has conducted on-site safety inspections at its logistics centers to prevent heat-related illness during the summer season.

CFS CEO Jeong Jong-cheol visited the Icheon 2 Center on June 25 and the Incheon 4 Center on June 26 to inspect workplace safety and health management conditions, the company said Monday. During the visits, Jeong personally handed out iced drinks and gifts to employees and checked whether heat-wave countermeasures were working effectively on the ground.

"The health and safety of our workers is the top priority," Jeong said. "We will strengthen investment in cooling infrastructure and professional preventive care so that every employee at every site can get through the summer safely and in good health."

CFS has continued to invest in cooling equipment and other facilities to prevent heat-related illness during the hottest months. The company is also expanding its HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) project, which channels hundreds of billions of won annually into lowering temperatures in high-traffic work zones across its centers. It has also added cold-air sealed doors to block outside heat, along with ceiling fans, circulators and large standing fans.

On-site employees have been supplied with heat-response gear, including summer kits, cooling vests, arm sleeves, cooling patches and neck coolers. Pre-shift safety training is also underway. In addition, CFS has hired all safety and health managers as full-time employees and deployed specialized personnel in relevant roles.

All health managers are licensed nurses with clinical experience. They provide workers with tailored services ranging from consultations on preventing heat-related, cardiovascular and musculoskeletal conditions to occupational stress management and advice on improving the work environment.
