SK Ecoplant wins 204.8 billion won reconstruction contract in Yongin

SK Ecoplant announced Monday it has won the contract to reconstruct the Samsung 2nd Apartment complex in Suji-gu, Yongin, Gyeonggi Province.

The project will redevelop a site at 692-1 Pungdeokcheon-dong, Suji-gu, Yongin into a residential complex of four buildings ranging from three basement levels to 29 above-ground floors, comprising 479 units and ancillary welfare facilities. The total contract value is approximately 204.8 billion won ($133 million).

The site sits in a transit-oriented area about a seven-minute walk from Suji-gu Office Station on the Sinbundang Line, offering convenient access to Seoul's Gangnam district and major business hubs in southern Gyeonggi Province, including Bundang and Pangyo.

The development also benefits from proximity to major road infrastructure, including the Gyeongbu Expressway and the Bundang-Suseo urban expressway, making it easy to reach key Seoul business districts as well as semiconductor clusters in Giheung and Yongin by vehicle.

The complex is well-positioned for education, with Towol Elementary, Pungdeok Elementary, Sinwol Elementary, Munjeong Middle, Suji Middle and Suji High schools all nearby. The Suji-gu Office hagwon district is also within easy reach, rounding out the area's educational options.

Lifestyle amenities are equally abundant. The Shinsegae department store South City branch, Lotte Mall Suji and E-mart Suji are all in the vicinity, and the commercial strip around Suji-gu Office Station is within walking distance.

Several other reconstruction and remodeling projects are also under way in the surrounding area, which the company said it expects will further boost residential appeal going forward.

The complex is surrounded by green space, including Suji Neighborhood Park, Suji Sports Park and Suji Ecological Park. Yongin Arpia — a cultural and sports complex housing a general stadium, Poeun Art Hall and Poeun Art Gallery — is also nearby.

"Drawing on the experience and construction capabilities we have built through urban redevelopment projects, we will work to make this site a landmark for the region," said Lee Gi-yeol, the executive in charge of urban redevelopment projects at SK Ecoplant. "We will continue to pursue high-quality urban redevelopment contracts going forward."

Separately, DL E&C was selected as the contractor for the Mokdong 6th Complex reconstruction project, valued at 1.3 trillion won, after winning 1,032 of 1,196 votes cast — an 86.2 percent majority — at a general meeting of the complex's association held at Yangjeong High School gymnasium in Yangcheon-gu, Seoul, on Friday.
