Kate, Princess of Wales, completes Three Peaks Challenge after cancer recovery

Catherine, Princess of Wales, 44, has completed the Three Peaks Challenge — climbing the highest mountains in England, Scotland and Wales within 24 hours — Kensington Palace announced Saturday (local time).

The princess undertook the challenge to support the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, the cancer hospital where she received treatment and which she officially patronizes.

Catherine, the eldest daughter-in-law of King Charles III, was diagnosed with cancer following abdominal surgery in January 2024 and announced that September that she had completed chemotherapy. In January 2025, she said her cancer had entered remission, with signs and symptoms having reduced or disappeared.

The challenge involves climbing Ben Nevis in Scotland (1,345 meters), Scafell Pike in England (978 meters) and Snowdon in Wales (1,085 meters) within 24 hours. The total walking distance is 37 kilometers, with a cumulative elevation gain of 3,064 meters, while the 743 kilometers between the three peaks must be covered by vehicle.

"Cancer doesn't just affect the body — it changes how you think and feel, and has a profound impact on every aspect of life," Catherine said. "I know this personally, and I know that navigating treatment and the journey beyond requires more than medicine alone."

She added that she hoped the challenge would raise awareness of "the significant impact of serious illness and the importance of whole-person care" — an approach that addresses patients' physical, emotional and social needs together.

Catherine and Prince William consistently rank first and second in popularity among members of the royal family, with approval ratings of 75 to 80 percent in polling.
