Hanwha General Insurance said Tuesday it had successfully concluded an in-house AI vibe coding competition designed to strengthen employees' AI capabilities.

The competition was set up to allow employees without programming experience to use generative AI to build apps and services that address real workplace challenges and improve efficiency. A total of 219 employees took part, proposing ideas and developing them into AI-powered programs and services across four areas: sales, customer service, product and support.

Entries focused on applying AI to practical work areas — including customer consultation, claims processing support and investment information analysis — to aid decision-making and streamline operations. Judging was carried out by external experts, including Kang Pil-seong, a professor in the Department of Industrial Engineering at Seoul National University, and Kim Mi-suk, a professor in the Department of Data Science at Hanyang University.

Two entries shared the grand prize: a customer data integrated management program and an overseas insurance risk information visualization platform. The customer data management program was recognized for its ability to efficiently consolidate data dispersed across different channels, boosting workplace productivity. The overseas risk visualization platform was praised for letting users grasp global risk information at a glance, improving both usability and convenience.

Hanwha General Insurance plans to share the top entries with relevant business units and review their potential for real-world application, while continuing to expand a company-wide AI adoption culture. Grand prize winners will also receive the opportunity to attend CES, the world's largest consumer electronics and technology trade show, to experience global AI technology and industry trends firsthand.

"This competition was designed to spread AI beyond the domain of specific teams or specialists and make it a practical tool used by all employees," a company official said. "We will continue to expand a field-driven AI culture and strengthen our digital competitiveness so we can deliver the best service to our customers."

Meanwhile, since CEO Na Chae-beom took office, Hanwha General Insurance has established a dedicated Technology Innovation Promotion Office reporting directly to him and made digital transformation a core strategic priority. The company also carried out an organizational restructuring last year to integrate AI technology across its operations.
